I am proud to be the Principal of Denewood Academy and Unity Academy, educational settings for children who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools. We value ourselves on creating an educational and social experience that meets the academic and emotional needs of all our learners. This is achieved through our created framework of a caring, supportive and structured environment. We believe in our 3 core values: Aspiration, Responsibility and Enthusiasm. Both pupils and staff sign up to these values as we engage with pupils, parents and educational settings all around Nottingham City.
Denewood Academy and Unity Academy joined the Raleigh Learning Trust in April 2017. At that time, both schools had been on a journey of becoming good schools and our sponsorship has secured an excellent relationship that is making both Denewood Academy and Unity Academy excel.
Denewood Academy is our Key Stage 2 and 3 provision for 7-14 year olds. The Academy’s goal is to reintegrate pupils back into a mainstream setting by relighting their engagement and belief in education. Personalised learning, a caring atmosphere and determination from our young people is needed to accomplish this quickly. However, we recognise that mainstream education is not the right model for everyone and so we also facilitate long-term learning through alternative provisions around Nottingham City.
Unity Academy is our Key Stage 4 provision for 14-16 year olds. Most pupils access their full-time education through a range of independent schools and alternative providers. We aim to appropriately place young people at a provision that is academically and socially right for them in our efforts to get the best outcomes for these young people. It is here that pupils can access GCSE’s BTEC’s, Functional Skills, AIM and ASDAN awards and a range of vocational qualifications.
